7 days of mourning declared by the President General
It is with deep sadness and grief that we would like to inform everyone that we lost, as of today, 19 brothers and sisters from the Vincentian Family in Zambia, in a road accident.
Around 70 Vincentian Family members were traveling from Mambwe Particular Council, in the Mbala Central Council to Mpulungu to take their retreat and to celebrate the feast of our Patron, St. Vincent De Paul. On the way, just 20 km. before reaching their destination, their vehicle overturned and 5 died on the spot while 14 died in the hospital. It is anticipated that the death toll may rise because some of the survivors have very serious injuries.
It is in this regard, that our President General, Bro. Renato Lima de Oliveira, declared 7 days of mourning, starting on 02 October 2017, for the death of our brothers and sisters in Christ. During these days, let us pray for their souls as well the families they left behind. Let us also include on our prayers the many people who are still critically ill in the hospital. Also, in these 7 days, let us pay tribute to the bravery of the many missionaries who put their own lives at risk to help others.
