A call for Prayer on the 10th, 20th and 30th of the month

On the occasion of the International General Council Meeting this coming June 14-16th, a new program will be launched proposing a common prayer for all those who share in the Vincentian vocation: in the year when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima (May 13th to October 13th), the 400th anniversary of the Vincentian Charism (September 27th) and the 20th anniversary of Ozanam´s beatification (August 22nd).

The spirit of this initiative is to motivate each member of the SSVP to take 15 minutes every 10th, 20th and 30th day of each month to ask the intercessions of our Lady of Fatima, St. Vincent and Bl. Ozanam for the prayer intentions of the poor, for ourselves, for our families and for the other members of the SSVP.

May our prayers serve to commit ourselves more fully to the Lord, through the spiritual union of all members of the SSVP and our families, along with the Poor, “our masters”, as Saint Vincent de Paul used to say.

Prayer: Our Lady of Fatima (10th day of each month)

Opening Prayer

Most Holy Virgin, you condescended to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with sincere love of this devotion.  By meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in your Rosary, may we gather the fruits contained therein and obtain the conversion of sinners, the Peace of Christ for the world, and this favor that I so earnestly seek of you in this novena (here mention your request).

I ask this of you, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor and for the good of all people. Amen.

Prayer: Blessed Frederic Ozanam (20th day of each month)

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, You blessed Frederic Ozanam with gifts of grace as husband and father, educator and defender of the faith, and founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. In this way he spent his life in loving service. Through his example and prayers, may we faithfully follow the path to which You have called us and one day join the saints in praising You forever. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Final Prayer – for the Canonization of Ozanam

Lord, You made Blessed Frederic Ozanam a witness of the Gospel, full of wonder at the mystery of the Church.  You inspired him to alleviate poverty and injustice and endowed him with untiring generosity in the service of all who were suffering.  In family life, he revealed a most genuine love as a son, brother, husband and father. In secular life, his ardent passion for the truth enlightened his thought, writing and teaching. His vision for our society was a network of charity encircling the world and he instilled St Vincent de Paul’s spirit of love, boldness and humility. His prophetic social vision appears in every aspect of his short life, together with the radiance of his virtues.

We thank you Lord, for those many gifts and we ask, if it is your will, the grace of a miracle through the intercession of Blessed Frederic Ozanam. May the Church proclaim his holiness, as a saint, a providential light for today’s world! We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer: Saint Vincent de Paul (30th day of each month)

Opening Prayer

O Glorious Saint Vincent de Paul, the mention of your name, suggests a litany of your virtues: humility, zeal, mercy, self-sacrifice.  It also recalls your many foundations: Works of Mercy, Congregations, Societies.

The Church gratefully remembers, your promotion of the priesthood. Inspire all Charitable Workers, especially those who minister to both the spiritually and the materially poor.

O Lord, give us the grace, that You bestowed upon your servant St. Vincent de Paul, to relinquish the temptation of material things, in our holy effort to minister to the poor. Amen.

Closing Prayer (by Saint Vincent de Paul)

Lord, “implant charity in my heart, so that one day I may join the beautiful Communion of Saints,  that true community of charity, triumphant with you in heaven.  Amen.”
