Zambia: the Vincentian Family mourning after the death of 20 of its members in a road accident
It is with sadness and grief that we would like to inform everyone that we lost, on Saturday 30th September, 20 brothers and sisters from the Vincentian Family in Zambia, in a road accident.
Around 70 Vincentian Family members were traveling from Mambwe Particular Council, in the Mbala Central Council to Mpulungu to take their retreat and to celebrate the feast of our Patron, St. Vincent De Paul. On the way, just 20 km. before reaching their destination, their vehicle overturned and 5 died on the spot while 15 died in the hospital.
It is in this regard, that our President General, Bro. Renato Lima de Oliveira, declared 7 days of mourning, starting on 02 October 2017, for the death of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
A Memorial Mass for the 20 members of the Society who died in this tragic road accident will be held in Mbala, Zambia on 18 November. The Board of the CGI and Zambia’s Twinning partner - East Region in Ireland- will be represented.
Let us pay tribute to the bravery of the many missionaries who put their own lives at risk to help others.
