The SSVP in Sri Lanka: new website launched on the occasion of the President General’s visit
The SSVP in Sri Lanka has enjoyed a double celebration in one weekend, as the launch of the National Council’s brand new website coincided with the visit by Renato Lima de Oliveira, 16th President General of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, during his first official trip covering 7 countries: Italy, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Chile.
With its first website, the Sri Lankan National Council is demonstrating its wish to improve communications using the very latest resources. There are already some items on the website, especially about the foundation of the Society in Jaffna in 1905, and news from Councils and Conferences around the country.

On his arrival in Colombo (capital of Sri Lanka) on 9 March, the President General was welcomed by Visaka Nilmini Weliwit, the National President. Along with Joseph Pandian (Vice-President General), she accompanied Renato on a programme of visits including meetings with some members of the clergy, in particular H.E. Emmanuel Fernando, Archbishop of Colombo, and with local Catholic Church leaders.
Between meetings with Vincentians and the planned activities, the President General also had the opportunity to see some of the special works of the SSVP: a project to build homes for families in need, a goat farm and a craft workshop. The President General’s stay in Sri Lanka finished with a gathering of 200 members of the Society in Colombo, before he flew to Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia, the fourth stage on his marathon trip through 7 of the countries where the Society is present.
