The SSVP and the Hierarchy

SSVP is an autonomous body, a lay Society with official legal status under civil law, and also recognized by the Holy See as a "Lay Society" under the category of "Pious Social Works". So, we are not a "Public Association of the Lay Faithful" nor a "Private Association of the Lay Faithful". However, by virtue of Canon 336, we are subjected to the Bishops on Faith and Morals.

SSVP works in close partnership with the Hierarchy. In practice, we consult and collaborate with the Bishops, seeking their consent and support in starting new Conferences, maintain close dialogue and informing them of our activities. In the past, SSVP was always highly praised for its good works and its Catholic Spirit.
